Donor Guidelines
Do's

Dont's

Have a long term perspective
If you donating on issues like education of children, have at least a span of 3 to 5 years depending on when you enter the donation cycle and the responsibility of corresponding NGO in fulfilling their commitment to you.

Support NGO in your city and visit them
Donating to NGOs where you live, help you visit the NGO and offer your time and core competency skills.

Support NGOs from your own district
This is important to keep social balance.

Dont ask too many physical documents from NGOs
Many times the NGOs complain that for a smaller donation also, they have to work on a lot of documentation. While as an audit, the documentation is important, go for digitised information to save the cost at the NGO end in sending you annual report or physical copies of the photographs or report cards.... we are educating NGOs to use online services to start sending online documents to save cost plus paper. So, avoid asking for a physical copy of the annual report. We will be getting these documents and placing them online.

At the time of volunteering
Have humility
If you are with the community which is underprivileged, flash your smile and share your warmth
If possible, do try to get your family (spouse / kids) when you volunteer; it will bring you closer. And they will not miss you on Saturdays / Sundays.

At the time of volunteering
Dont think "You and they" . Be a part of the community.
Dont expect attention from the NGO - specially when you are a senior person in your organisation and are with your colleagues or with the family.
Never give an impression that you have come to help them
Sure you are not supposed to wear a sad look on your face but be sensitive to the situation
If you are with the community which is underprivileged, dont flash your mobiles or other such items.
If you are teaching a group of children, or sharing a story with them or visiting a hospital, and you get a call on your mobile, dont start talking endlessly. As far as possible, avoid the call.
If you are playing with HIV positive children, dont let them know you know that. Be normal.
Dont leave a long term volunteer project because you are fed up, having problems, or feel you are being taken advantage of. Discuss how you feel with the CSR team which will be pleased to help you as much as it can.
Dont carry out any job if it is against your wishes or principles. Discuss the situation with the NGO contact person.
Dont betray any confidences entrusted to you as a volunteer.
